GENESIS–THE DAYS OF CREATION
THE SEVENTH DAY
Genesis 2:1-6 “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.”
“…HE RESTED…” LITERALLY, “HE SABBATHED.”
Genesis 2:3 “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”
“…HE SANCTIFIED IT…”
ANYTHING THAT GOD SANCTIFIES IS IMPORTANT TO GOD. (Maybe not so much to man, but it is important to God).
THERE ARE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN O.T. SANCTIFIED THINGS, AND N.T. SANCTIFIED THINGS:
EXODUS 13:2…ALL THE FIRST BORN…..HIS SON
EXODUS 19:14…BELIEVERS WHO WERE OBEDIENT….HIS PECULIAR PEOPLE
EXODUS 19:23…MOUNT SINAI…MOUNTAIN OF GOD. UNAPPROACHABLE EXCEPT THROUGH JESUS.
EXODUS 29:36-37…ATONEMENT OFFERING…CHRIST, OUR ATONEMENT.
EXODUS 31:12-18…THE SABBATH (HOLY TO GOD)…GOD’S REST
EXODUS 40:10…THE ALTAR…THE CROSS.
EXODUS 40:11…LAVER & FOOT…JORDAN RIVER WHERE JESUS WAS ANOINTED AS PRIEST FOR US.
EXODUS 40:13…AARON, THE PRIEST…CHRIST, OUR PRIEST.
LEVITICUS 8:10…THE TABERNACLE…..OUR BODIES 1 COR. 3:16.
I CHRONICLES 23:13…AARON & SONS FOREVER…WE ARE MADE KINGS AND PRIESTS (REV. 1:6).
HOW IS SANCTIFICATION ACCOMPLISHED ?
IT COMES AS A CONSCIOUS RESPONSE TO GOD’S TRUTH. JOHN 17:17
BY RECEIVING THE GOD OF PEACE. 1 THES. 5:23
THROUGH THE WORK OF CHRIST’S BLOOD IN HEAVEN. HEB. 13:12
THROUGH THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (GOD’S MIGHTY WORK). EX. 29:43-46.
THE CREATION OF MAN.
Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
THE BODY OF MAN: God created it from the earth. It was “formed.” It was not spoken into existence, as other parts of His creation were. He was not “brought forth,” from the ground. This was a deliberate, hands-on action of God, making man in His image.
THE SOUL OF MAN: The analyzer of input from spirit and body. The memory is included within the soul.
Lamentations 3:19-20 “Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.”
The decision-maker.
Lamentations 3:24–24 “The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.”
THE SPIRIT OF MAN.
It is the seat of emotions.
Troubled—Genesis 41:8 “And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.”
Disappointment. Mark 8:12 “And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.”
Stirring and excitement. Exodus 35:21 “And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.”
THE SPIRIT AND SOUL ARE SOMETIMES VERY DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH. SOMETIMES ONLY THE WORD OF GOD CAN SHOW US WHETHER OUR MIND (SOUL) OR EMOTIONS (SPIRIT) ARE THE ISSUE. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
The Anchor for the soul–Jesus ! He is able to keep the spirit and soul under control. Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
SPECIAL PLACES FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES.
Genesis 2:8 “And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.”
God made man somewhere else. God put him into the Garden, meaning that he had been created elsewhere. God planted the garden. It was not a part of natural earth. A “garden” is distinct from the natural growth areas of plants and trees.
THE TYPES OF TREES:
–THOSE THAT WERE SIMPLY FOR AESTHETIC QUALITY=”pleasant to the sight,” (evergreens, cypress trees, oak trees, palm trees, etc.). ***From this, we see that God made some things simply for their looks ! He created mountain ranges, unusual outcroppings of rock, etc., simply for the purpose of being beautiful !
–THOSE THAT WERE SPECIFICALLY MEANT FOR FOOD. (Pineapple trees, peach trees, walnut trees, pecan trees, etc.).
–THE TREE OF LIFE. REV. 2:7, 22:2, 22:14.
–THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL.
