THIS SERIES ON “POWERFUL WORDS” EXAMINES SOME IMPORTANT WORDS USED IN THE BIBLE WHICH PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND ANYMORE. EVEN MANY CHRISTIANS DON’T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THEIR TRUE MEANING.
“SIN”
1. PRIDE IS AN ATTITUDE OF SIN. BUT, IT ACTS OUT IN DAILY LIFE. GOD HATES IT.
Proverbs 21:4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
WHAT DO THE PROUD DO ?
Psalms 119:51 The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from Thy law.
Psalms 119:69 The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep Thy precepts with my whole heart.
Psalms 119:85 The proud have digged pits for me, which are not after Thy law.
2. SOME WAYS OF THINKING GOD CALLS SIN.
Proverbs 24:9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
Proverbs 15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
1 Corinthians 3:20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. [“THE WISE”= the assumed experts]
3. WHATEVER IS NOT DONE IN FAITH IS SIN.
THAT DOESN’T MEAN THAT EVERYTHING DONE IN FAITH IS RIGHT. **SOME PEOPLE DO HORRIBLE THINGS, THINKING THEY ARE RIGHT.
Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
GOD COUNTED THE LACK OF FAITH BY ISRAEL IN THE WILDERNESS TO BE EVIL.
Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
Hebrews 3:19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Hebrews 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
WHAT CAN I DO NOT TO SIN ?
- MAKE SURE WHAT YOU DO IS WHAT GOD WANTS. CHECK THE BIBLE. PRAY. SEEK GODLY COUNSEL.
Jeremiah 12:16-17 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of My people, to swear by My name, The LORD liveth; as they taught My people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of My people. But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.
Romans 2:8-9 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
4. FAILURE TO DO RIGHT IS SIN.
- FAMILY APPLICATION. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO AGREES WITH YOU, OR NOT. WIVES–OBEY YOUR HUSBANDS IN THE LORD. YOU ARE NOT THE GOD-ORDAINED AUTHORITY IN THE HOME. SO LONG AS THE HUSBAND DOES NOT INSIST ON YOU DOING SOMETHING THAT IS UNBIBLICAL, DO IT FOR THE LORD’S SAKE AND THE SAKE OF THE MARRIAGE.
James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
- SECULAR GOVERNMENT APPLICATION. DISCIPLES KNEW THAT THEY HAD TO DO WHAT WAS RIGHT, EVEN IF IT BOTHERED OTHER PEOPLE AND BROKE THE LAWS.
Acts 4:19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
- WORK REGULATIONS. BE HONEST, REGARDLESS OF PEOPLE WHO WANT YOU TO CHEAT OR LIE.
UNRIGHTEOUSNESS=ANYTHING THAT VIOLATES GOD’S LAW
1 John 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
BUT…THERE IS STILL HOPE !
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
FORGIVENESS IS YOUR ONLY HOPE. AND GOD WANTS TO PROVIDE THAT FOR YOU. BUT, YOU HAVE TO RECEIVE IT !
