WHEN A LITTLE CHILD WAS GIVEN A NEW BIKE FOR CHRISTMAS, HE DIDN’T SEEM VERY EXCITED. HIS PARENTS THOUGHT HE WOULD BE JUMPING UP AND DOWN WITH JOY, SINCE HE HAD BEEN WANTING HIS OWN BIKE FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND THE FAMILY HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD IT. THEY CONFRONTED HIM, AS ASKED WHY HE DIDN’T SEEM VERY EXCITED. HE TOLD THEM VERY CALMLY, “BUT I AM EXCITED. YOU JUST CAN’T SEE IT.”
THAT IS THE WAY MANY PEOPLE ACT WHEN GOD DOES SOMETHING FOR THEM. EMOTIONS ARE CONTROLLABLE. WE CAN SHARE OUR JOY WITH OTHERS, AND IT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT ON THEIR INTEREST IN THE LORD.
To be amazed at something means that what you encountered went far beyond your expectations. We should be ready to be amazed by the Lord.
1. ASTONISHMENT AT THE WORK OF THE LORD.
A. AMAZED AT WHAT JESUS DID.
Luke 4:36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power He commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
B. AMAZED AT THE WORD OF THE LORD SPOKEN WITH POWER.
Mark 1:22 And they were astonished at His doctrine: for He taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
C. AMAZED THAT THE DISCIPLES HAD WISDOM AND POWER.
Acts 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
2. AMAZEMENT AT THE POWER OF THE BELIEVER’S LIFE.
A. AMAZED AT THE CHANGE IN A PERSON’S LIFE THROUGH JESUS. PAUL.
Acts 9:21 But all that heard Him were amazed, and said; Is not this He that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that He might bring them bound unto the chief priests?
B. WHEN PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT TRUE MIRACLES, THEY ARE AMAZED WHEN THEY HAPPEN.
Acts 3:10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
3. AMAZEMENT AT THE GREAT PROMISES OF GOD.
A. AMAZED THAT GOD WOULD TAKE SIN SO SERIOUSLY.
Mark 10:32 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And He took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto Him,
B. AMAZED AT THE [PROMISES OF GOD WHICH WERE FULFILLED.
Mark 16:8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
C. IT IS AMAZING THAT WE COULD BE SAVED.
Matthew 19:25 When His disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
