DID YOU EVER HEAR SOMEONE ACCUSE A CHILD OF BEING A STRONG-WILLED CHILD ? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN ?
CAN BEING A STRONG-WILLED PERSON POSSIBLY BE A GOOD THING ? YES. WE NEED TO BE STRONG-WILLED WHEN IT COMES TO THE THINGS OF GOD. WE NEED TO STAND OUR GROUND AND BE FAITHFUL, REGARDLESS WHAT OTHERS THINK, SAY, OR DO.
THERE ARE MANY INSTANCES OF PEOPLE IN THE BIBLE WHO ACTED ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN WILL AND IGNORED GOD’S WILL.
–THE ANTICHRIST.
Daniel 11:36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
–BACKSLIDDEN CHRISTIANS.
1 Corinthians 16:12 As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.
THESE ARE PEOPLE WE SHOULD NOT WANT TO FOLLOW OR COPY THEIR BAD EXAMPLE. BUT, WE HAVE THE PERFECT EXAMPLE, THE LORD JESUS, WHO PERFECTLY FOLLOWED HIS WILL.
GOD’S WILL IS STRONGER AND MORE POWERFUL THAN ALL OTHER WILLS PUT TOGETHER.
Daniel 4:35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
GOD WANTS US TO KNOW HIS WILL.
Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
1. GOD MADE US FOR THE PURPOSE OF CARRYING OUT HIS WILL.
INTELLIGENT PEOPLE DO NOT MAKE THINGS DELIBERATELY THAT WILL HINDER OR STOP WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.
A. THE WILL OF GOD SHOULD BE DONE FROM THE HEART. SOMETIMES THAT IS HARD BECAUSE WE WANT TO INJECT OUR OWN WAYS AND WILL INTO THE WORK.
Ephesians 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
B. WHETHER WE WANT TO DO GOD’S WILL OR NOT, WE WILL STILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
1 Corinthians 9:17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
2. IT IS GOD’S WILL TO BLESS YOU
A. IT IS THE DEVIL’S WILL TO CAPTURE AND DESTROY YOU.
2 Timothy 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
B. DOING GOD’S WILL LEADS TO GREATER KNOWLEDGE ABOUT FAITH AND DOCTRINE.
John 7:17 If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
C. DOING GOD’S WILL OPENS THE DOOR TO GOD HEARING US.
John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth His will, him He heareth.
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:
D. DOING GOD’S WILL DEVELOPS A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
Mark 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
HIS MOTHER AND BRETHREN WERE NOT THERE WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
3. WE SHOULD BE HIGHLY MOTIVATED TO KNOW AND DO GOD’S WILL.
A. THERE ARE MANY CONSEQUENCES TO NOT DOING GOD’S WILL.
Luke 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to His will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
